This position reports to the Broadcast Operations Manager and is essential in providing on air programming by MontanaPBS.

Together with KUFM -TV, located at the University of Montana in Missoula, KUSM operates as MontanaPBS a state-wide public television service.
KUSM also services MSU -Bozeman and the School of Film and Photography academic department by providing a real-world complete television environment for laboratory and internship coursework, and also provides complete television production services to on-campus departments, other public agencies, and to the private sector.
Duties and Responsibilities
Help manage a custom relational database.

Tag and catalog media assets according to the database protocols.

Help maintain an extensive library of broadcast media including on-demand streaming inventory.

Perform a variety of scheduling and cataloging tasks.

Perform a variety of tasks directly related to on-air operation, studio production, and ancillary Network services.

Help train and supervise students.

Provide a variety of department-related support to the Network, University, and general public.

Daily data compilation and entry.

The procurement, cataloging, filing, and inventorying of broadcast content and media.

The creation of multiple, daily, Operations-related schedules.

Prepare Pledge-related programs and schedules for on-air fundraising.

The daily proofreading of data and schedules.

The daily ingests, purge, and on-air switching of program and interstitial content.

Captioning of local programs for on-air broadcast.

Continual monitoring and evaluating both technical and aesthetic quality of multiple program streams.

Continual monitoring and adjusting operating performance of multiple reception and transmission facilities.

The selecting, hiring, training, and evaluating student interns & employees.

The daily documentation and reporting of the Networks operating status.

Providing department-related information support to the Network, and to the general public.

Communicate with the engineering team regarding various broadcast equipment issues.
Required Qualifications Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
High School diploma or equivalent plus progressively responsible work experience, full-time (or part-time equivalent) directly related work experience, which includes:
database management experience, inventory management experience, library experience, and/or comprehensive scheduling and coordinating duties,or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

Demonstrated experience using computers primarily for comprehensive data entry, as well as competence in accurately compiling information; formatting; typing; and proofing of spelling, alphanumeric information, & grammar; on complex forms.
Preferred Qualifications Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Previous radio or television, Traffic, Master Control, or related experience, in public or commercial broadcasting.

A current SBE (Society of Broadcast Engineers) television Operators Certification or its equivalent, OR the successful completion of such certification within six months of employment.

Post-secondary education.

The ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers, work effectively directly with the public in a service-related position.

The ability to work with people of varying skill levels and abilities including working with students.

The ability to represent MontanaPBS and its programs to others in a professional and courteous manner.

Competence using database management software is desirable.

Experience with Adobe Premiere is a plus.

Demonstrated competence organizing and prioritizing large workloads and meeting short deadlines while working quickly and accurately at multiple tasks in a distracting environment.
Position Special Requirements/Additional Information
This position requires a regular, shift-based, work schedule that will likely include early mornings, evenings, some holidays and/or weekends.
In addition, there will regularly be a few hours scheduled in excess of the standard 40 hour work week.

This position requires a current SBE (Society of Broadcast Engineers) Television Operators Certification or its equivalent, or the successful completion of such certification within six months of employment.
