As a Ecologist within the Northern Rocky Mountain Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:
Develops, conducts, analyzes, and coordinates ecological studies related to wildlife disease and large mammals. Supports the research team by developing work plans and methods for specified phases of research in the investigation of wildlife disease and large mammal ecology. Recognize regions in the study area requiring research emphasis, including intensive habit communicates research results to other scientists, client groups, and the general public by preparing professional reports and scientific papers for oral presentation at scientific meetings and publication in appropriate scientific journals at and space use analysis, population analysis, and observations of wildlife behavior. Handling logistical and organizational duties and problems concerning field operations. by arranging for the movement of equipment between widely scattered and isolated field locations and providing supplies and equipment necessary for day to-day operations. Maintain property control and records of Federal and state property assigned to the project. Basic Education Requirement:
Applicants must meet the following to satisfy the basic education requirement for Ecologist, all grade levels. Successful completion of a bachelor s or higher degree from an accredited college or university in biology or a related field of science underlying ecological research that includes at least 30 semester hours in basic and applied biological sciences. These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours in ecology, and 12 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences In addition to the basic education requirements described above, you must also meet one of the following to qualify at the GS-09 level:
Possess 1-year of appropriate professional experience in ecology that is equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Examples of GS-7 level work may include:
1) planning and executing wildlife camera trapping studies; 2) planning and executing wildlife disease field studies, 3) conducting statistical analyses and biometrics relative to animal movement and disease ecology; 4) maintaining and integrating geospatial and biological databases and conducting geospatial analyses; 5) characterizing animal movement and habitat use from GPS-tracking data; and 6) summarizing and reporting research results to support scientific publications, reports, or presentations. OR Successful completion of 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education or masters or equivalent graduate degree in biology or a related field of science underlying ecological research. OR Possess a combination of graduate level education as described above, beyond the first year of progressive graduate study, and appropriate professional experience that together meet the qualification requirements for this position. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.
